Day 17 - Monday September 15

The bus let us off in front of the tourist office where we met this nice lady. Unfortunately she did not give us clear instructions to the hotel whe had planned to go to, so we ended up at the youth hostel. Stupid me said that we would stay 2 nights. What a bargain though at 3,500 drachmas for one night! We then went to the little restaurant next door for dinner for some Spaghetti bolognaise (the pasta was not cooked to perfection like the Italians cook it!) with salad and spinach pies. A cute little kitty seemed to inhabit the place! For dessert we had Rose Petal Jam. Very interesting and yummy! It was made by a monastery of the region. To bed at 11pm in bunk beds, the lower half of quads. It was so noisy for such a tiny town! Of course our window opened right on to the main street!

Day 18 - Tuesday September 16

Early wake up call around 8am, a rooster woke us up this time an interesting change from Italy's church bells. The streets were already noisy with traffic. We still could not understand how a small town like that was so loud. We had a breakfast of bread and jam with O.J. pop and Thierry had yucky coffee instead of the tea he had ordered. Off to the museum of the Olympic games which is quite small but filled with artifacts from past Olympics. Quite neat! There was even a list of the winners in 700 BC. We then walked over to the site of ancient Olympia. Very busy with tourists! The setting was beautiful, lots of greenery but the ruins have not been very well preserved and the site was much smaller than we expected. Nevertheless interesting. Next the museum, where there are many artifacts of all kinds found at the ruins. Some of these dated back to the 8th century BC. Unbelievable! Once we were done visiting the museum, it was only 1pm and there was not much else to see in Olympia. So we decided to head for Areopoli early so we could get a full day there the next day. Of course the hostel lady said sorry no refunds! Oh well, it was still cheaper than a night stay in Italy! So we skipped town. It was a tight schedule though. Areopoli was about 5 hours away.
